The Importance of Thought Leadership
Your MSP company needs to be a “leader of the pack”. It needs to be setting trends, not being caught up in their wake. This is something that’s downright simple to conceive, but achieving it–that’s another matter entirely. Being a thought leader can be complicated.
How to Facilitate Thought Leadership
With any goal, getting from planning to realization requires direct effort. It’s no different with thought leadership. If you’re going to lead the pack, that requires making innovations and discoveries peers have not been able to make. Doing so effectively is almost a way of life. The mind must be trained to practice thought leadership continuously. Here are things you can do:
Management that is influential will only be that way if it does one of two things: legitimately leads with quality or basically overrides everybody else. Either alternative is technically thought leadership; but one gets people to follow along of their own accord and innovate, whereas the other compels obedience. You don’t want to compel it, you want people to naturally want to follow.
Influential management that’s conducive to positive thought leadership will lead by example. A standard will be set and kept. If you want people at work early and thinking with all their neurons, you need to beat everybody to the office. Be the last to leave. Practice what you preach. Get your hands dirty. Be approachable and transparent.
When you do that, others will follow along, rather than being afraid of getting in trouble. Fear is, as Frank Herbert put it, “the mind killer”. You don’t want to be negatively influential, but positively influential.
Expertly Lead and Facilitate Solid Customer Care
As an MSP company, legitimate expertise should characterize internal staff leadership and external customer leadership as regards service provision. When you’re caring for customers in a way that demonstrates mastery of the products and services you provide, you become a trusted resource. You become an “institution”, a true authority.
Develop Content, Be Visible, Work with Other Thought Leaders
Expertise and leadership ultimately benefit through the development of content concerning IT and new developments related to the market. Such content needs to be visible, and if you work with other thought leaders, that will make both you and them more visible, establishing everyone involved as thought leaders.
Enabling Your MSP to Succeed as a Thought Leader in Your Market
As an MSP company, you want to lead by example in an influential way, care for customers, demonstrate true leadership, develop content, be visible, and work with other thought leaders. An approach like this will naturally compel employees to follow your positive example. Additionally, it will help compel customers to trust in what you do, and even recommend you to others. You could very realistically start a new trend.
